I’ve always had a deep sense of respect and love for my parents for giving my brother and me a wonderful childhood. They left India when I was three and built a great life that has allowed me to live the way I want.
Last January, my son was born, and I became a proud father. That one event completely changed my perspective on my parents, as I realized just how challenging parenting can be. When your baby is born, no one hands you a manual with instructions on how to be a great parent. You’re simply handed your baby, and then you’re off to the races.
As my wife and I have faced each hurdle of parenting, it’s dawned on me how easy my parents made it look. They never once made me feel like they didn’t know what they were doing or that parenting was a difficult job. I always felt like they knew everything, and I was safe in their hands.
Since the day my son was born, I’ve constantly told my parents how much more empathy I have for them now. My parents are my role models, and I hope my son will one day think the same of my wife and I.
